The Photo Cookbook – Baking app for iPhone and iPad
Baking with this app is easy as pie! The Photo Cookbook – Baking clarifies the preparation of 60 recipes for cakes and pies, sweet and savoury pastries, cookies and breads. Beautiful photography, which is displayed in high resolution especially on your iPad, illustrates every step.
Hint: The content of this app is identical to the recipe package "Baking", available by In-App-Purchase in our app "The Photo Cookbook – Quick & Easy".
The app captures the successful concept of “The Photo Cookbook – Quick & Easy”:
Every recipe begins with a picture illustrating all the ingredients used in the following recipe. This way, you can control, at one glance, whether all the necessary foods are available for each preparation.
The short preparation instructions are clearly formulated and easy to understand. This, along with the images, helps beginners and experts alike think about the small details. Every recipe is rounded out with an opulent picture of the finished product.
The app is divided into four chapters: “Cakes & Traybakes”, “Pastries”, “Small Cakes & Cookies” and “Breads”. Every chapter contains a hand-picked selection of 15 refined recipes – including traditional family favourites and modern interpretations, recipes for the special occasion and also for the daily coffee break. All preparations are uncomplicated and useful for the complete beginner, thanks to the step-by-step instructions.
Features at a glance:
- 60 recipes in four chapters
- over 500 high resolution photos
- all recipes are uncomplicated to prepare
- all recipes displayed in professional step-by-step photographs
- search function for ingredients and recipes
- ingredient lists can be emailed
- mark the best recipes as favorites. Simply tap the bottom right corner of a recipe on the overview page

- ingredients provided with consumer information (available only in English language)
- compatible with the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
The content of this app is also available in book format: “Frame by frame – Baking” (Parragon Books Ltd, 2010).
Pros and cons of The Photo Cookbook – Baking app for iPhone and iPad
The Photo Cookbook – Baking app good for
A must-have companion to the original cookbook. Beautifully presented. I already have my eye on some recipes.
Just as great as the other Photo Cookbook! Wonderful!
Of course, I have no idea to cook anything at all. BUT, I can easily follow these pictures! And, people will actually eat my cooking, and love it!!!
One request, please. How about a voice activated scroll option? Its hard to scroll down when my hands are gooey. I find I need to keep washing and drying my hands just to go to the next picture/step of the recipes.
This app is beautiful and the pictures with the ingredients makes it so easy to bake.
I would rate it five stars if there were more recipes. Maybe add new recipes every month. Also the email option should include the pics and directions.
Thank you :)
Again, not a ton of recipes, but the ones theyve chosen are classics and really beautiful.
I like how easy it is to look at the ingredients and the simple but extremely helpful and clear photographs of each step.
Its also easily laid out for one or two swipes required to see all the steps in the method -- not 10 or 15 which is great when your hands are sticky or covered in flour. (Use your nose :) )
It is a must-have if you loved the cooking app!!!
Great illustrations with really easy to follow instructions, but not enough recipes. Hopefully, more will be added.
Just started using this app. With my high school culinary students. We have a very busy program, students actually work along side chefs in a hotel. This app. reinforces what we are teaching the students. The great photos displaying the individual ingredients, the information of the ingredients as well as what the finished product SHOULD look like is an incredible teaching aid.love the fact we can add notes to the recipes as well as share the recipes via email. My only suggestions: continue adding recipes even a reasonably priced subscription service, video demos of basic techniques and possibly the ability to create a shopping list.
Congrats on a well designed app.
Some bad moments
Didnt update for years. Purchased with the scale...do your guys give up?
I came across this app while I was at the apple store purchasing an IPad. I forgot the name of this app so when I got home I searched and searched. Luckily I found it! I love the clean easy user interface and the pictures are magnificent! When I saw they had the other meal recipe app I had to purchase it too! Love it! Hopefully we get updates for new recipes to try!
This app is great. I love that you can learn more about the ingredients, especially what they are called in other languages since I am living overseas right now. I also love that they are all recipes from scratch. Love, love, love the pictures and steps laid out.
What would make this app even better, though? Please add the ability to make notes to each recipe. As you know, times and temperatures may vary so it would be nice to keep track of our personal attempts to each recipe. This would be especially useful for me living overseas and faced with converting metric ingredient amounts and temperatures to Celsius. Notes would also allow us to write down amounts and/or ingredients used as a substitute for another ingredient for people with gluten allergies, shrimp allergies, diabetics, vegetarians or vegans.
It would also be interesting to add more educational information about the recipes for those of us still learning. For example, what ingredients are absolutely necessary and what can be substituted to make a different flavor or left out to make it more of a general recipe that can have flavor added after the completed baking process.
This app hits many help aspects of an actual cookbook. It displays wonderful images that I personally like and gives a vivid description of the steps on what to do... This app by far wins my 5 stars... :)
This is a great app! I just wish there was a way to add more recipes.
My review is pretty consistent w/ others... I like the presentation of the recipes but there should be either additionally added, or in the alternative, revolving recipes. The advantage of an electronic form cookbook is the possibility of updates and/or changes. Otherwise we simply have a sort of "e-book" that merely reprints the print version... a handheld mini version. For the price ($5.99), I suppose that is reasonable; a subscription of evolving recipes would/should likely cost more...
